Deviled quail eggs are a delightful twist on the classic appetizer, offering a bite-sized treat that's both elegant and flavorful. Here's a step-by-step guide to creating the best deviled quail eggs:

Ingredients: - 12 quail eggs

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh dill (plus extra for garnish)

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Smoked paprika or fresh rosemary, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Boil the Quail Eggs: - Place the quail eggs in a saucepan and cover them with cold water.

    • Add a splash of white vinegar to the water; this helps soften the shells for easier peeling.

    • Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium heat.

    • Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat, cover it, and let the eggs sit for 4 minutes for hard-boiled yolks.

    • Transfer the eggs to a bowl filled with ice water to halt the cooking process and make peeling easier.

  2. Peel the Quail Eggs: - Gently tap each egg around the center with a paring knife to crack the shell.

    • Place the egg under cool running water and carefully peel away the shell.

    • Be patient, as quail eggs have tougher shells and membranes compared to chicken eggs.

  3. Prepare the Filling: - Slice each egg in half lengthwise and gently remove the yolks, placing them in a small mixing bowl.

    • Mash the yolks with a fork until smooth.

    • Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to the mashed yolks. Mix until the filling is creamy and well combined.

  4. Assemble the Deviled Eggs: - Using a small spoon or a piping bag fitted with a star tip, fill each egg white half with the yolk mixture.

    • Garnish each deviled egg with a light sprinkle of smoked paprika and a small sprig of fresh dill for an elegant touch.

Tips: - Peeling Quail Eggs: Adding vinegar to the boiling water helps soften the shells, making them easier to peel.

  • Flavor Variations: For added texture and flavor, consider mixing finely chopped pickles or crispy bacon into the yolk filling.

  • Serving Suggestions: Deviled quail eggs make for exquisite hors d'oeuvres at parties and can also serve as a sophisticated garnish for salads.
